Drag Story Time is a passion project of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and the Fourth City Sisters no less so. Sister Mary Kissorkill has been behind this project since its inception here in St. Louis as Sister Story Time, which was originally hosted by the St. Louis PrideCenter, which is now closed. The Covid Pandemic put an end to in-person meeting for awhile, but Novice Sister Kitty Sprinkles made it her mission to keep Story Time going via Facebook and Youtube along with a number of Sisters and local Drag Artists.

In 2024 Sister Mary was approached by one of the organizers for Tower Grove Pride, and magic began to happen. Drag Story Time is now a full-on outreach program of the Fourth City Sisters, Abbey of the Glittering Arch, partnering with Tower Grove Pride and other local businesses and organizations and in collaboration with Drag Story Hour, a national 501c3 that provides support for Drag Story events throughout the country.

Our current format is a kid-focused, all-ages event that includes a number of local Drag Artists featuring Kings, Queens, and In-Betweens or Others reading some of their favorite children’s literature and picture books, along with Sister Silly Time, which is a stretch and wiggle and dance break in between readers. We host tables from local organizations and businesses with a focus on children’s joy and well-being, such as Face Painting, Arts & Crafts, Literature, and Music as well as Social Justice and Outreach. It is our honor and pleasure to be working with Left Bank Books closely on this program.

In an effort to promote equity and diversity, we have made a promise to our partners and our community to feature a wide range of performers of all life experiences, gender expressions and identities, as well as heritages and racial background. All of our Drag Artists are compensated for their time.

There is a $20 fee for tabling at our Story Time Events, which can be paid via PayPal, Venmo, Check, or Cash. Checks should be made payable to “Fourth City Sisters”. Notes on payments should include “Drag Story Time” in the field so our Treasurer can ensure those funds go to the correct project fund. In addition, sponsorship or partnership and advertising credits are by donation or other agreement with the Fourth City Sisters, Abbey of the Glittering Arch, and are by a case-by-case basis.
